With hundreds of acres of countryside, woodland and open spaces, it’s ideal for walking, cycling, picnics or simply giving the children somewhere to burn off some energy.
There’s also something new to discover this summer. Trent Park House of Secrets opened in July 2026, bringing the fascinating history of Trent Park Mansion to life. The museum explores both the glamorous social history of the estate and its remarkable secret role during the Second World War.

Take Off at the RAF Museum London
The Royal Air Force Museum London in Colindale is another brilliant local option – particularly if the weather isn’t behaving.
General admission to the museum is free and families can explore an extraordinary collection of aircraft while discovering more than 100 years of aviation and RAF history.
Younger visitors can also enjoy AeroPlay!, the museum’s aviation-inspired indoor soft play area, which is running throughout 2026.

One for the Diary: Barnet Food Festival
The holidays might be finishing, but there’s already another family event to look forward to.
The Barnet Food Festival returns to the RAF Museum London on 12 and 13 September 2026, bringing together street food, live music and more than 40 traders.
There will also be a free Kids Zone featuring face painting, circus games, biscuit decorating and an inflatable obstacle course. Children under 16 go free with the appropriate festival admission.
